TTC w/ PCOS on Metformin

Postby MommyMUA on Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:29 pm

Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with PCOS in July 2009. My boyfriend and i already have a beautiful 4 year old together and just recently decided to TTC in January. My DR provided me w/ 1000mg of Metformin per day and I received AF on Jan 13th. From that point on we have had plenty of intercourse. However, the first few times he did not ejaculate and the last time he did, but he got scared at the last minute and pulled out and ejaculated right outside of me. I am not sure how great Metformin works but since AF came on Jan 13th I was expecting it to come on Feb 13th...and well...no show! Now, I am more than use to AF not being around due to PCOS so I am taking it not coming as a Met failure. I have ruled out being pregnant simply because my boyfriend did not come inside of me. I have not taken a PT because I have had so many negative test in the past that I just don't want to see another one. Besides a missed period other symptoms such as head ach, back ach, heart burn, constant urination, and fatigure are present. But I make excuses and say those are simply from poor choice of food or drinking too much fluids.

Has anyone else TTC w/ Metformin? Has anyone else only had one period w/ Metformin and never got another?

Any suggestions?!

Hi Mommy MUA,
I have been taking Metformin for nearly six months and have not had a period.
I was given Metformin by the gynaecologist as I was diagnosed with PCOS as well and had not had a period for nearly 12 months :(
At the beginning of taking it my doctor asked me to take the pill as it may restart my periods which I did and I did have a period however once I spotted taking the pill and continued taking Metformin I have not seen a period since.
I am due to go back to to gynaecologist in April and if Metformin has worked then they will try something else.
I'm sorry its not working for you either I really want a baby and find it hard that I can't get my body to work for me.

I hope this helps

Metformin works great for PCOS. My wife was diagnosed years ago, and was told that having a baby again would be a challenge, so the Dr prescribed her Metformin and told my wife that she will see her in a couple of months when she got pregnant. My wife thought she was crazy, but guess what we have had 2 more children since then. My best advice is be calm "No Stress", take the Metformin and don't try to get pregnant just enjoy the sex with your SO. Sometimes pregnancy happens when you least expect it.
